On September 23, 2010, the National Pavilion for Saudi Arabia was held in Expo 2010 Shanghai. The Daily Expo of CCTV News channel covered the grand ceremony and visited Mr. Wang Zhijun, General Architect of CEEDI and General Engineer of Saudi Arabia Pavilion on the special features of main structure design of “Moon Boat” for Saudi Arabia Pavilion.

The Saudi Arabia Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai designed by CEEDI receives much attention with its unique artistic modeling, infectious design full of humanistic flavor and full scenery with a modern sense and charisma integrating into IMAX exhibition. Its modeling of “Moon Boat” obtains much more appreciation. The “boat” is not only mellow and beautiful but also energy-saving and environmental-friendly. Mr. Wang Zhenjun told the journalist that a combination of architectural aesthetics, expression and energy-saving concept was taken into full consideration in design; the light court in middle of the “boat” was used to ensure sufficient indoor natural lighting; and natural wind is conveyed to the top from the bottom according to the theory of temperature difference of area. Although there is neither a window nor a door in the “boat”, the problems of lighting and ventilation of the whole building was solved. The Saudi Arabia Pavilion party indicated, “We are very appreciated with the creativity of the ‘previous boat"" since a flourishing sea Silk Road was opened earlier more than 1,000 years ago, which connected the civilization of Arabia and China and produced a profound influence on the development of the two countries in the following days. Based on the history, Saudi and China will create a more bright future of cooperation.”

At the celebration ceremony for the National Pavilion Day, the artists from Saudi Arabia presented the audience on site with wonderful traditional singing and dancing performance “A Passion in the Desert” of their country. On the day, little gifts were prepared for tourists, which left a beautiful memory to tourists after their visit to Saudi Arabia Pavilion.

As one of the pavilions with the largest area and investment, except China Pavilion, in Shanghai Expo, Saudi Arabia Pavilion has attracted much attention and crazy chase from media and tourist.
